My Night-time Skin Routine

If you had asked me 3 years ago what my Night-time Routine was, I would have simply replied with; "4 bourbon biscuits and a glass of milk".  Because frankly, that's all it was for quite a while.

It took a harsh dose of acne-related troubles and research for me to start appreciating my skin a lot more and to treat it with the respect and love it deserves, because we do put it through a hell of a lot. Drinking, sunbathing, waxing (never again). So what changes have I made in the evenings to make sure I don't look like a leather handbag by the time I'm 35? Well, let me tell you;

I change the products on my evening skincare routine on average about 4 to 5 times a year. When I find something my skin really likes and reacts well to, I try and adapt all other products so they all work together to give my skin the best treatment possible. But I am a skincare enthusiast and a blogger so I will chop and change every now and again so I can give first-hand recommendations on the latest launches and the favourites of the beauty world. I mostly get my recommendations from other product addicts, bloggers and of course my buddies who are lucky enough to play with skincare all day long and call it work (sob) - there's something really great about sharing a product and it really working for another person, which is why it's always great to share the wealth when it comes to a wonder-product.

So, this is the routine I tend to do mostly when I've had a face of make-up on all day, when I have "no make-up day..days" (aren't they just the best?) It tends to be a lot more quick and simple, but heck, that's for another day!

First up, I go in with round 1 of cleansing. I've been using The Body Shop's Silky Oil Cleanser for about a month now, and I gotta say it's the absolute cats pajamas. I've never been the biggest fan of oil cleansers but this stuff is great at taking the day off and is so gentle against the skin. I put about 2 pumps onto the palm of my hand and massage it onto my face, breaking down the make-up including water proof mascara and then follow up by rinsing it with lukewarm water.

Next I go into part 2 of the cleansing, and this is with my beloved Liz Earle, (need I say more?) I use one half pump and massage into the face, taking my time and really giving my face a good wash. I then remove the product with a clean flannel or muslim cloth and ta-dah - the cleanest face you ever did see.

After cleansing is done with, I move on to toning and purifying my skin - this is normally done with Bioderma which I very rarely stray from, but I ran out and my Amazon order has still not arrived so I turned to the "Boscia Skin Tonic Spray" which was a cheeky little Sephora purchase when I was in the states. Now this stuff is just delightful, it's so refreshing and really hydrates your skin, it comes in a spray bottle so all you have to do is aim and spritz onto your face and neck...but keep your mouth closed, it don't taste so great.

Next is my favourite part - giving my skin a big ol' drink! I'm a big lover of moisturisers and when you want something a little more thicker, you can't go wrong with a classic. I've been using the Nivea Regenerating Night Cream for absolutely years now and I still love it every time I put it on. It's just so fresh feeling, soft and just the right consistency for going to bed, it really leaves your skin feeling nourished and just an A+ in my book. I follow this up with the Kiehl's avacado eye cream which is so creamy and light against my eyes, AND it brightens up my eyes - win win!

So now my face is pretty ready to hit the sack, I finish up this routine by scrubbing some of Lush's
Mint Julep treatment on my lips which tastes exactly like mint choc-chip ice cream! But that's not its only perk, despite it being 100% edible it also exfoliates your lips leaving them plump and soft for the morning.

Last but not least I head on downstairs to grab a glass of milk and bourbon biscuits, cos hey, some things don't have to change.

I hope this has given you some ideas on how you can improve or even start your night-time skin care routine. If you have any questions or would like to share a recommendation with the class, go ahead! The comment box is just below.

Night night! x
