USA Cake Confessions

So if you've read any of my previous blog posts, you'll be fully aware that I recently went away to the sunshine state of Florida in the USA.

To say I had a fabulous time would be an understatement, I got more than acquainted with the Sephora stores (but that's for another post!) And of course ate my way around all the incredibly decadent and indulgent cakes and sweet treats that Orlando had to offer.

As a self-confessed cake, cookie and dessert lover - I felt it was my duty to try as many of these indulgences as possible to create not only a food memory I can revisit time and time again, but also to help me recreate some of the delights I sampled in the hope of bringing home a little slice of USA with me.

So, the first in my list of sugary sensations was found in a store called "Goofy's Candy Company", located in Downtown Disney, this was of course the epitome of Disney World snacking and I was more than ecstatic to finally try it out myself.

Whilst they have a mouth-watering selection of pre-made treats such as cookies, shortbread, candied apples and more - my reason for attending was to create my very own treat tailored! You can pick up a tick sheet by the bakery, fill out your name and choose exactly what base, toppings and drizzles you want on your dessert! This was an ingenious process and it took me no time at all to make my choice - I went for a rice crispie treat base (the American go-to baked treat), dipped in white melted chocolate, covered in mini m&m's and then drizzled with milk chocolate. You can watch the bakers create your order for you before it's put in the fridge to set for 3 minutes and then ta-dah! Your name is called to retrieve your dessert of dreams. To say it was delicious would not be giving it enough credit - great textures, a perfect blend of chocolate and marshmallow, an all round delicious snack which I have missed every minute since being back.

My second delicious extravagance came in cheesecake form, but not just you average cheesecake, oh no. This was an Ultimate Red Velvet Cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory, I’m going to pause for a second while you google.
 You googled? Okay good.

This stuff is the food of Gods, the softness and delectable-ness of the sponge is truly heavenly, with just the right balance of cocoa, The Cheesecake Factory absolutely nailed the essence of a good Red Velvet Sponge. Then you have 3 generous sections of their white chocolate, cream cheese frosting; in the centre, swirled liberally on top, and the stacked on the edges and complimented with white chocolate curls. The frosting is so rich in delicious flavour, a combination of sweet goodness and creamy consistency, there’s an unexplainable tang which makes its way in there, and you’re not sure why but it’s just a brilliant addition.

The description alone is enough to get my mouth watering, there’s just nothing else I can say other than if you try it, regular Cheesecake will never be enough, but boy you will not regret it.

The last tasty treat I'll be sharing with you is an American classic and an all-time favourite, the Oreo Milkshake. Now I’ve tried my fair share of these and heck, I even have the equipment to make my own at home! But sometimes a meal just ain’t a meal with that classic combination of Oreos, ice cream and milk.

Now, I found my most favourite Oreo Milkshake in a little diner called Johnny Rockets, an American institution which has kept the 50s going strong with their classic decor and table sized jukeboxes filled with feel-good songs. To me, a good Oreo milkshake is thick, smooth with the occasional chunk of cookie hidden in there, which is exactly what Johnny delivered.

Served in a glass sundae...glass(?) with a dollop of whipped cream and with the remains delivered to the table in the original ice-cold milkshake cup, I was in my element – the perfect finishing touch being the monster BBQ burger I had with it. Sure, this meal wasn’t going to get a “eat clean” hashtag, and I’m sure that milkshake went straight to my butt, but in my opinion it was a perfect accompaniment to my already calorific meal and a great edition of a famous classic. Bravo Johnny, you still got it.

Below I've left a few pictures of products which definitely deserved honourable mention for just being so darn tasty! I could write about all of these desserts all day long, but hey, this girl's gotta make time for more cake tasting sessions, but I'll be sure to take you along on the next ride.

Toodles! x
