My Week in Products

You know some weeks you just have a really good face week? Like you'll catch sight of yourself in a window and be like; "Dayum, this blush is really working it on my cheeks,"?

Well, this was my face last week, and it's all thanks to my Sunday ritual. One of my favourite things to do on a Sunday (after eating my body weight in chocolate digestives obvs,) is to reorganise my make-up bag. I switch up the products from my storage so that all of my blushes, foundations, bronzers etc are getting circulated and so I can get a good idea of what products are potential faves, and what's worth a repurchase.

I thought I’d share some of the standout products of this week’s face with you, as I've fallen head over heels with almost every single product I've used! I’ll admit there are some weeks I have to force myself not to change around and go back to old faithfuls; but I've definitely made some new best friends from the contents of my make-up bag this week.

So let's get into it...

Powder
My first new discovery has been the Sheer Finish Loose Powder from Bobbi Brown. Now, lemme tell you this stuff is divine! It’s super soft and light on the skin, but still eliminates any chance of shine you might be in danger of developing throughout the day – so it is a total god send for those with oily and combination skin. What’s also great about this product is that it isn’t too drying and so still allows a dewy finish to your look dependent on your choice of foundation.

I’ve recently began applying my powder after my concealer but before my foundation. This is a little trick I learnt off a blogger and it completely changes how your foundation applies to your face, and you know what? *whispers* I really dig it!

Concealer
I use two concealers in my make-up routine, one right before applying my base make-up and one just after. My first concealer I’ve been going in with has been the bloggers favourite, the Collection 2000 Lasting Perfection Concealer, and this is for under the eyes and any blemishes I might have. I’m not gonna beat around the bush here – this concealer is honestly the cat’s pajamas of concealers; not only is it super creamy and blendable, but it does such a good job of masking my tired eyes and helping my complexion achieve a more balanced tone.

The second concealer I use is more of a concealer/highlighter and is the YSL Touche Eclat; another holy grail product – this product actually never leaves my make-up bag, because it’s exactly what I need after I’ve applied my base just to go on the innards of my eyes to brighten them up a little more and lighten any remaining darkness I have. I don’t think I’ll ever stop using this product, they aren’t kidding when they call it a magic wand!

FoundationThis week I’ve been using a tinted moisturiser in place of foundation, and I’ve gotta say my skin has been all over it, literally. This is perfect for giving your skin a little boost when you want to have a healthy-looking glow all day without the heaviness of foundation. The application is really smooth and you can use the heat from your fingers to work into your skin for a natural; “your skin but better” look.

BlushMy chosen blush this week was “Pretty Pink” by Bobbi Brown. I really like this blush as it’s great for giving you that natural flushed complexion; I tend to build it up slowly so I don’t end up looking like a Dutch doll, but doing this gives your cheeks a really beautiful, girly colour – just what you want for springtime!

Sidenote: This is also a great option if you're having a "no-make up, make-up day" if you just want a hint of colour to your cheeks!

Bronzer
I dip in and out of using bronzers, but in the Spring and Summertime I think they’re an absolute must for giving your face a little more definition and that extra bit of colour to bring your face to life!

Bronzers can be a little tricky in the sense that, you don’t want your face to look like it’s been on holiday, and it forgot to invite your body; which is why I’ve found using the Bourjois Delice De Poudre Bronzing Powder perfect for that transitional period when your skin is trying to shake off that winter look. All you need is a few light dustings on the area’s most likely to get hit by sunlight; (tip of the nose, jawline, your temples etc)  but remember guys – a light dusting, blend is friend!

What I also really love about this product is its scent, it smells exactly like “holiday”; you know the smell I’m talking about? Like coconuts and un-rubbed sun cream, it’ll leave you wanting to book a one-way flight to a Greek island pronto!

Brows
I had been looking for a change from my Anastasia Brow Wiz and happened upon the “Espresso” eyeshadow from MAC, I had completed forgotten how dreamy eyeshadows were to use as brow filler and have fallen completely in love all over again. Using a MAC 266 brush I am able to give myself the brows 13 year-old me shaved off many moons ago. Natural-looking and a great colour match – perfect!

So I hope these insights have given you some inspiration to go towards your next purchases, or have even encouraged you to change up your make-up bag more often. There's a whole world of A+ products out there, we just gotta fine em!

*Sidenote, I do apologise that I haven't inserted an image of each product I've discussed - I really wanted to get this post up today and due to time limitations I was left taking pictures this morning with my hair in rollers and a spoonful of wheetabix in one hand and so, mistakes happen!

See you next time xxx

  1. Loved this blog and it has encouraged me to tidy out my over stuffed full of rubbish makeup bag. Loved the part about not taking your body on holiday. A thoroughly enlightening blog that made me smile, thank you. Xxxxxx
