Skin Food

When it comes to products, my all time favourite to purchase is always moisturisers - they're just so darn good!!

I love the feeling after a long day of wearing a face, you shove your hair out the way, take your make-up off and give your face a good feed with thick, nourishing blobs of moisturiser which you can just massage into your face at your heart’s content, and give it that hearty drink it's been craving for hours.

Similar with body moisturisers, there's nothing I love more after a long hot shower, than giving my skin that soft, supple feel you only get after slathering on lashings of your favourite body cream. Sigh, it’s just the ultimate pampering indulgence for me!

So I thought I’d share a few of my favourite face and body moisturisers, why I like them and how they make a difference in my skin. Hopefully this might give you a few tips for your next beauty buys!

LUSH King of Skin Body Butter

Fo sure, this product is the one that changed my life the most beyond any other, what makes this moisturiser super unique is that you actually use it whilst in the shower(??) Right before you get out after you’ve washed and you’ve still got the water running, you take the product (which is similar to a soap in appearance and consistency) and you rub it all over your body, letting the water run over it. What you’ll feel upon applying it, is almost like a moisture coating going onto your skin, creating a barrier between you and the water.

I marvelled when I first used it, watching the water dripping off my skin thinking; “Ah! Science!” I was sceptical when I got out of the shower thinking I would start to feel my skin going dry within an hour, but this stuff honestly locks in moisture like nothing else; leaving you with caressingly butter smooth skin all day long.

(You'll have to forgive the sad little pebble I have left of this product, I've been using it like crazy!)

Nivea Rich Rejuvenating Night Cream

I have been using this as my night-time moisturiser for around 5 years and I would honestly never use anything else, its super moisturising and leaves my skin feel nourished and fed until I wake up the next day!

At £3.00 (or £1.20 when it’s on special offer – woopah!) This product is an absolute steal, I shrug when I see the Creme De La Mer stands as I just can’t imagine ever spending hundreds of pounds for a name when a classic just does as well for less than a percentage of the price! It’s the ultimate must-have in my evening routine, it has great rejuvenating qualities and gives your face that real nice fresh feeling for when you clamber into bed – no matter how frazzled the day has left you feeling.

Laura Mercier Body Souffle

I would normally give a specific flavour (not that I eat it...but you know what I mean, fragrance? Flavour? Either way!) but with the Laura Mercier range I honestly can’t because they are all just TOO DAMN GOOD!

Honestly, I’ve never known a product life it, whether it’s; Ambre Vanilla, Almond Coconut Milk, Creme de Pistache or Fresh Fig – you can be absolutely certain that you are smoothing the nectar of the gods onto your body. Each one smelling just as delicious as the last, the soufflé sinks into your skin when you apply it, leaving a glorious scent and soft pampered skin. I very rarely wear perfume over this as I don’t want to distract from the soufflé scent, I often get told I smell like a cupcake which I really rather enjoy.

Kiehl's Avocado Eye Cream

As a dark-circle sufferer, there’s nothing that my under eyes love more than when I coat them in this soft, creamy...erm cream. It’s green in colour and feels so light and fluffy when you extract a little bit onto your finger, I tend to rub it between my two ring fingers (which is said to dispense the goodness within the cream so you can put it directly onto your skin) and then lightly tap it under my eyes, my eye bags relishing in the new found moisture they’ve been craving all day.

If your under eyes have been looking a little dark recently, a lack of moisture (and lack of z’s) is the only cause, which is why an under eye cream is super important to both your morning and evening routine. The skin is so much thinner in this area, and so when its dehydrated it’s so much more noticeable through the skin. I combine this with my Kiehl’s powerful line reducing concentrate to avoid looking like a dishevelled Uncle Fester on most days.

Origins Gin Zing Moisturiser

Sadly, I am all out of this product and currently powering through my Korres Rose Moisturiser before I allow myself to repurchase. But this stuff is just the cats pajamas for a daytime moisturiser, especially during the summer!

Its super light and super soft on the skin, leaving a lovely summery, citrus scent that would be fitting for a day at Club Tropicana. The product applies very lightly and is almost a whipped consistency, so it’s perfect for going underneath a face of make up on a warm day for that extra bit of moisture, that’ll keep your face hydrated all day long.

These have been my faves for many moons now, so I doubt they’ll be changing any time soon, but I am always on the look out for the next Holy Grail product that my skin’ll just eat up! Moisturiser is extremely important for maintaining a healthy complexion and glow to your skin which is why a hearty application twice a day along with many glasses of water is my ultimate recommendation for you. Also, if you ever have any products you think I or others might love, pop them in the comments and share the wealth!

Happy moisturising!

xx

  1. Cant believe that I was just looking through the internet for a decent moisture as mine is nearly at it end, and noticed you've posted a new blog which I absolutely love reading. I am going to try the Nivea Regenerating Night Cream, as I believe like you its one of the classics and the price is amazing too. My under eyes are looking a bit papery today, and will now go and put some of my Kiehl’s under my eyes rubbing it between my fingers as you suggested and give them a treat. I must also agree with you 100% with the King of Skin as this is just the most amazing product and was introduced to this by my beautiful daughter, I used this every evening whilst on holiday and my skin was silky smooth, there was no need for extra lotions. This is a brilliant blog which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading, and has spurred me on today to give my skin a moisture treat it deserves. Keep blogging, I think you are not only extremely informative about the products you write about, but the style in which you write is greatly entertaining. xxx
