Skincare Spotlight : Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Clensing Masque

Despite being in a post-flight, jet-lagged state - I literally couldn't wait to write this review of the Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Clensing Masque (phew, bit of a mouthful eh?) So with about a gallon of water and 300g Milka bar by my side, I'm beating the dreaded US-jet lag with a skincare spotlight of my latest beauty discovery!

So the first time I tried this masque was actually whilst in the States. I had popped into the Kiehl's store whilst shopping at one of the malls and got to talking with their skincare specialist Stephanie, who by the way is an absolute delight - if you're ever in Florida, you can find her at Mall at Millenia, she knows the Kiehl's products inside out and will hook you up with whatever product your skin is craving.

I was already in the market for a new once-a-week masque, however I didn't tell this to Stephanie - I simply explained how I wanted to treat my skin to something really purifying and something that would make my skin feel fresher and more revitalised. Upon hearing this she immediately grabbed the Rare Earth Deep Pore Clensing Masque saying it would be everything I wanted and more, she advised me however to take a sample of it back to the hotel with me and to try it out twice before committing to buying to see if I wanted to invest and purchase. This I thought was SO refreshing to hear after being used to pushy sales assistants in UK department stores who act as though sample sachets are a privilege rather than every beauty-lovers right.

So, I took my little sample back with me and applied it that night, I hadn't worn make-up all day so I  gave my face a quick wash and then applied a thin layer all over my skin and kept it on there for about 25 minutes (recommended time is 10 minutes or more) and then removed it with a hot towel and GEEZ LOUISE did I see results!

Nowadays, I have pretty good skin and I wouldn't necessarily say my skin looked lacking in moisture as it's something I always keep on top of as a skincare addict, but when I removed the masque my skin felt and looked completely rejuvenated. My pores were virtually invisible, my skin looked plumper (and this wasn't due to the extra pounds gained after a visit to The Cheesecake Factory) and boy was it soft! I was so surprised at the results after just one use, and even though it says you can use it up to twice a week, I think I would use it just the once on a Sunday pamper day, to energise my skin ready for the week ahead.

The formula is slightly clay-like, but a lot thinner and lighter on the skin than others, it applies a lot more easily than clay masques also as I found there was slightly more liquid in its formulation than others. It dries quickly and hard so watching a comedy is not advised whilst wearing this masque (until you take it off anyway), the scent of the masque is actually really quite refreshing, it has no added fragrance or a strong smell but gives off a really clean, natural and almost slightly herbal-smelling scent which I think is always nice when giving your skin a pamper. what I also discovered and is also quite a little bonus feature of this product, is its pimple curing properties. If you have a blemish you want dealing with all you have to do is apply about a pea-sized amount of the product onto said-pimple after you've moisturised ready for bed, and sleep with it on. By the morning redness will have reduced as well as size and pain of the sore spot - not bad huh?

If you hadn't already guessed, I of course returned to the same Kiehl's store after sampling the masque and purchased the full-sized tub (amongst other equally-needed items, oops!) And couldn't wait to use it again. I used it on the plane home (and looked like a raving lunatic with my grey-clay face) and was able to walk off that plane with plump, baby-soft skin which is totally worth the 25 minutes of humiliation 30,000ft in the air - thank goodness it was a night flight.

I would recommend this product to someone with oily, combination and normal skin, as it's quite natural I would like to think it would be good for sensitive and dry skin types, however I would rather research it further before recommending it to other skin types purely because of the moisture balance it provides after use, it was definitely enough for someone with combination skin like me, however I don't know whether this would give someone with dry skin the hydration it needs however this could be rectified by following up with a nourishing night cream after removing the masque.

So that about wraps it up with my review of the Rare Earth Deep Pore Clensing Masque, I know this post has been a bit of a lengthy one, but I feel as though it needed that explanation as to exactly why I liked it and I always prefer to read an in-depth review before considering purchasing a product.

Skincare Spotlight I think is something I might do monthly to share my latest finds in the holy grail of skincare, and until then keep your eyes peeled for more posts including a humungous haul of all my beauty and skincare buys from the States and a cheeky home-baking post thrown in there for good measure.

See you next time!

  1. Yet another amazing blog. I love Kiehls it's just the best, your spot on with your comments on getting samples as its a virtual impossibility on the beauty counters at John Lewis. The mask sounds pretty amazing and will definitely try it out. I followed your tips on my extra long flight home and they worked wonderfully, my skin felt good and moisturised, not dry as it normally does, so thank you x
