A Day in Chester

A little bit of a different post today, but I wanted to share anyway! So last weekend my mum and I went on a little day trip to Chester, now if you have never been to Chester, you've gotta go - it's so picturesque, so quaint and full of amazing architecture...oh, did I mention they have incredible shops there too?

You see, every few months my mum and I go on little days out or adventures – never too much of a drive away but we call these days “us” days. It’s where we can just spend time together, catch up and indulge in some treats for the day. Now whether this is a visit to Bury Markets to sample caramelised cashew nuts (dreamy) or a day in Nantwich visiting the Ice Cream Factory (necessary), they’re always the funnest days filled with laughter and SO therapeutic.

Don’t get me wrong, I still pop round to my mum’s for a hot chocolate or just a chat a couple of times a week, but sometimes it’s just nice to escape and spend some quality time with each other, soaking up the atmosphere in a different town, and Chester is the perfect place for that!

So we arrived about midday and started the day just as all days should – with a nice hot Starbucks, de-lish.

We then proceeded to window shop, check out what Zara had to offer and went a bit crazy in the aisles of Boots.

As we both have holiday’s fast approaching (mum’s going to Cape Town and I’m off to Florida) a trip to Boots for the essentials (mascara, lip balm, texturizing spray etc)  was inevitable and I spent probably more than I’d like to disclose on the last minute holiday buys – but hey, a girl got needs.

I also introduced my mum to Lush, now I only own a couple of things from Lush (I’d love to try some of their bath bombs however with only a stand-up shower it proves quite difficult) but my mum absolutely ADORED it in there. I have to admit the smell is pretty incredible, and we tried this hand exfoliator which left our hands softer than an angel’s wing – I don’t even know how they do it, all I know is that I loved whatever was on me.

We popped into Hotel Chocolat for a little chocolate fix, the stuff in there is seriously delicious and there are always samples to try (a word of warning, whatever you taste you WILL want to buy, this is why my pantry is now stuffed with delicious praline penguins).

I tried to take a quick little ootd while I was waiting in the queue, I didn’t go for anything too major as it was a little chilly and I knew we’d be walking quite a bit. I went for my leopard flats from Dune, Mom jeans from Topshop (did the distressing myself don’t cha know, even got the cheese grater wounds to prove it.) Primark’s blue fluffy crop, Leather Jacket from Topshop and my Longchamp bag with all my whoosits and whatsits for the day.

After some more shopping, my dad joined us after finishing work for the weekend, we took him to this really cute cafe we always visit when we’re in Chester and had THE BEST GARLIC BREAD EVER. Me and mum normally go there for lunch and order some of their yummy sandwiches, but we just wanted a snack which turned into 3 plates of cheesy garlic bread because it was just so good!

After eating about 5 pounds worth of cheese on bread, we decided to saunter (waddle) back to the car, soaking up the last minutes of Chester life as we walked. I always have the best memories of Chester and just find it so relaxing being there, the people there, the scenery all contributes to just a lovely day out, and I thoroughly recommend you giving it a try!

Below I've thrown in a few more pictures of Chester so you can really get the feel for the town!

I hope you've enjoyed this more “day-out” style blog – tune in next time where I’ll be hauling what I’d purchased while I was visiting!

Thanks for reading.
